December is around the corner and so is Walk to Tuk!

2020 marks the tenth anniversary of Walk to Tuk. We are celebrating this milestone with a new website, new sponsors, and a new staff member.

For those of you who may be wondering, during Walk to Tuk participants conceptually walk the distance of the Big River from Zhatıé Kų́ę́ (Fort Providence) to Tuktuuyaqtuuq (Tuktoyaktuk), a total of 1,658 km. Don’t worry though, you don’t have to do it alone—form a community, school, or workplace team and get there together. This annual event is free and a great way to meet new people and stay active during the cold, dark months of winter. It also happens to be the largest and longest physical activity event in the NWT!

Walk to Tuk has grown each year, with thousands of participants taking on the challenge annually. To celebrate our tenth anniversary, and help everyone track their many kilometres, we are launching a new website. You will be able to access the new site in the next couple of weeks, which will be the hub for all things Walk to Tuk, including registration. Stay tuned for more details!

As you might have guessed, running Walk to Tuk is no small task for the staff at the NWTRPA. Fortunately, we are have the support of some incredible sponsors that help make the event a success and help it grow. We are grateful to the NWT & Nunavut LotteriesCanadian NorthDominion Diamond Mines, and Lawson Lundell LLP for continuing to sponsor Walk to Tuk, and we couldn’t be more excited for our new sponsors.
