Meet the Walking Challenge Advisory Committee (WCAC)

The NWTRPA formed a Walking Challenge Advisory Committee (WCAC) to  review the program  and the name, ensuring that it aligns with the organization’s commitment to decolonization and reconciliation as stated in the 2018-2021 strategic plan: “The NWTRPA is working with intention to advance decolonization and reconciliation through its work, workplaces, and relationships.”

The WCAC plans to carefully consider all options regarding the Walking Challenge’s new name by spring 2023.

Meet the members of the WCAC:

Diane Gordon

Diane Gordon lives in Yellowknife and is a semi-retired nurse. She wanted to join the Committee as she thought it would be a welcome challenge. She’s very interested in being active in decision-making and improving the program.

Christina Ernestine Holman

Christina Holman lives in Fort Simpson. She feels that it’s important to keep the historical travels of our people, Metis, Inuit, Dene and others.

Elizabeth Stirrett

Elizabeth Stirrett resides in Fort Smith, NWT with her spouse Dwight. They have four children and two handsome grandsons. She lives by the Dene teachings and is always practicing her traditional knowledge. Her hobbies are beading, harvesting sage, reading, traveling, enjoying the outdoors, and camping. She is very excited and grateful to have this opportunity to work towards bringing knowledge and experience to the committee.

Hannah Taneton

Hannah Taneton is from Délı̨nę and is very active in her community. She enjoys spending time with her friends and family out on the land. She’s always up for learning and practicing her Dene culture.

Annie Steen

Annie Steen is originally from Tuktoyaktuk and currently resides in Yellowknife. She works with the Tuktoyaktuk Community Corporation
and joined the Committee to ensure the Walking Challenge program includes community interests, knowledge and awareness.

Les Blake

Les Blake is from Fort McPherson and joined the Committee as he wanted to help the program continue to be successful for years to come. Les has a lot of knowledge to share and things to learn as well. Les loves sports and activities that promote healthy living and a healthy lifestyle.
